I had the immense privilege of taking a service for the renewal of marriage vows in the prayer room at Worcester Royal. Keith is very poorly, and he and Lizzie, his wife of 22 years had planned to renew thier vows at the Register Office. Sadly, Keith was too poorly to attend and so we had a renewal ceremony here. I had met Lizzie and Keith before, just before his op and we had said prayers.
So on Friday 3rd May at 7pm upwards of 90 of us squeezed into the prayer room behind Costa Coffee. The very young to the very old- all their to witness this event. And it was a squeeze- I have never seen the prayer room so packed.
The service began by playing Endless Love. We said prayers, a relative spoke in tribute of this lovely couple, the rings were exchanged and the vows said. The service ended by playing Stuck on You, Keith’s favourite song, which he joined in.
There was not a dry eye in the house.
And, as the photos show, the crowd mingled in the reception afterwards for photos and to sign the book.
And it just strikes me what a diverse range of things we do in the hospital. Amazing physical things, yes. But also amazing things to do with the whole person. An integrated package (at its best) for mind, body and spirit.
Huge thanks to Lizzie and Keith for giving me permission to use the photos. Good luck inthe next few days and weeks.
And a huge thanks to all the staff who made this event possible.
I think it made a difference. Do you?
